Patch 1.7 Exclusive 02.07.2004
Hello everyone,
The decision to have patch 1.7 go open-beta was the next logical step in the development process. Due to the new network code, especially considering users who are behind routers, it is important for us to gather feedback and make minor changes where required. It also gives us an opportunity to give the community a chance to see what has been happening in these months and to collect further feedback about changes to the balancing which experienced players feel need to be done.
An open-beta means just that. Patch 1.7 will be released as a beta for feedback and information gathering purposes, but also to have a stress test run on the network code and evaluate quest logic after long gaming hours with numerous players. The beta also means that there are small areas which have not been completed yet. No one is forced to download the patch, and for the duration of the open beta, players preferring to stay with 1.66 will still have access to the online servers.
We at Ascaron value the feedback, hence us doing this open beta. Threads will be cleared out (Developer Corner) in order to have a centralized area for your feedback, complaints or further details you would like to give from yourself while looking at the further changes which have been made. We are also especially interested in what you feel about dragons now or any other boss enemy. Quest problems not found by the beta testers will be found quicker with the majority of players being able to concentrate on specific areas. Once the open-beta has been released, and this is planned for the upcoming week, at least a further 3 weeks are required to collect the feedback, implement the new code and release a final patch.
