I have played just about every rpg ever made, and believe me when I say to you, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is amoing the worst roleplaying videogames I've ever had the displeasure to experience. The translation is really terrible for one thing... its like Breath of Fire 2 on super nintendo: confusing, awkward, unnatural, and sometimes outright wrong(like yes is no wrong!). The art direction is a disaster, it looks like it was done by a programmer who really has no passion for visual art at all. the story is... well... basically it is not. there really is no story, its all just events to set the stage for the next identical barbie doll "woman" that the discusting (hero?) Geralt will have sexual intercourse with. the sex scenes in this game are mercifully censored, thank God! there's enough sinful acts in the game as it is without showing characters dirty parts... as a Christian, I was deeply offended by The Witcher 2's countless scenes of non-marital fornication. the combat system is also mind-numbingly boring. I mean, sure, you can do a few somewhat brutal things iin the finishing moves, but I was really hoping to be able to rip an enemy's eyeball out of his head and eat it. I really wanted to be able to cut off individual toes and things like ears. I've always wanted to be able to torture innocent people in my rpg. especially a sinful witch like Triss for example. "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live," so they say, but I would certainly suffer a witch to suffer! I mean seriously, this game is filled with heretics. why can't I cleanse their foul souls with pain?

Extremely disappointing game which is hindered by its platonic characters, unintuitive combat and extreme difficulty. Even on the first prologue level you encounter a level of frustration that is not supposed to be combined with entertainment. Even after decreasing the setting to the very lowest it is harder than any RPG I have tried before, even harder than Dragon Age 2 before we patched it. If you haven't lost your patience and go on with the story you will find gratuitous sex scenes and a gender view that is just disgusting in this day and age, where women are treated like female dogs and men are made superior on all aspects. The combat is simply a buttonmasher with no need for skill at all, the quicktime events that require precise timing and skill are sparse in favor of a really stupid combatsystem where you only have two attacks, weak and strong. In comparison to its superior brother, Dragon Age 2, it feels inferior in all aspects and I would not recommend this game to anyone but masochists.

This game really epitomizes everything that’s wrong with the direction that some companies are taking the RPG genre. The story is uninspired and fails to adequately motivate the player, the player character is also clichéd and dull with few interesting characteristics. It feels like the developers looked at all the great storytelling done over the years in RPGs like Baldur’s Gate or Dragon Age and threw it all away. One can only assume they expected their gameplay to make up for this shortcoming, but it fails to do so. The controls are awkward and feel despite being a PC exclusive, make it feel like a console port, which when laid on top of the already poor combat mechanics, make each fight feel like a grind. While interacting with other characters provides some relief from the worst of the gameplay the characters really don’t offer any depth, and seem to serve simply as a backdrop against which to put women who the player can interact with sexually, I suppose CD Projekt thought us nerds would pay for some pathetic dating simulator. There really is nothing to redeem this game, and if you are looking for an RPG to invest in you are probably better off with one of the other recent offerings such as Bioware’s Dragon Age 2.
