Finger: It's pretty obvious that Oblivion will
support widescreen TVs on the Xbox 360, but will the PC version support widescreen modes?
Pete Hines: Yes, we support whatever resolutions your card supports, including widescreen.
Finger: One of my favorite Morrowind "mods" was not a mod at all - it was a separate program called the Morrowind FPS Optimizer. Along with many handy features for Morrowind like additional options and in-game hotkeys, what it mainly did was auto-adjust the game's detail and draw distance to try and maintain a specific frame rate. Will Oblivion include options that mimic some of the functionality that this utility offered?
Pete Hines: It offers a lot of
sliders and options to tweak your performance. We check your setup and card and will set your options at one of four levels, but beyond that you can further adjust and customize the level of detail, draw distance, different options that are off/on as you see fit. We don't offer any kind of "on the fly" auto-adjust or anything like that.
Finger: Will the
PC version of Oblivion include a command console, like Morrowind did, in case some sort of game-breaking issue does happen?
Pete Hines: Yes, the console is included again, and we have worked very hard to make sure you don't need it for that purpose. But if you want to cheat like crazy, it definitely lets you do that.
Finger: Some of the screenshots we've seen for Oblivion show a massive draw distance that goes out way further than Morrowind could handle. Is a draw distance this far going to make it into the final game, and if so, is it only a setting for the most of extreme of PCs? Can the Xbox 360 handle that kind of huge environment?
Pete Hines: The most recent videos you saw were taken last week, so yes, that's in the final version of the game. That's what it looks like.
On the Xbox 360 it is a fixed distance, and yes, it can handle it. Again, it looks just like it does on the videos. On the PC it's actually a slider so that it can be pulled in for older or slower cards, or drawn out further on the latest cards. As newer and better cards come out, you'll be able to adjust that even further.
