Well first off, I emailed valve and asked if I could release this info, and they told me they "want" me to say I liked it so... hopfully I dont get chewed out by somebody.
I got to go to valve 2 times, and playtest games.
One game was Portal, so im gonna tells ya what the gameplay is like (and just saying I playtested a ALPHA EARLY VERSON of the game)
All I playtested was the gameplay and there wasn't that much story to it when I playted it (that was 1 month ago).
The game was created by college students (correct me if im wrong) that valve hired to make this game. (I have really bad memory but I remember them telling me this before I played it)
I go to valve, sit down on this computer and look into the monitor with the name PORTAL on it, the first thing they told me is im testing the gameplay of this game, this isn't the official name (but it is nowlol) and act like the 6 people behing you dont exist
They dont tell me ANYTHING about the game, so that little video you got help you out ALOT! so dont watch it a lot.
At first I didn't have the portal gun, the world just kept opening up random portals do diff places, and you have to "figure out" which portal to jump in at the right time.
Then you get the portal gun, that only can open up 1 portal at a time, meaning the portal you shoot on the wall, will take you to another portal already created... as you progress through the game the portal gun "improves"
The game "DOES NOT!" have gravity changing things like walking on walls like prey. Gravity is a BIG! gameplay part of the game, like momentem and so on. (as of when I played it, and I told them it would be cool to add that (because prey was in mind) and they kinda laughed and say everybody comments on prey when they play this (like they got mad because 100 people told them this) Let me be the first to say (from playing the demo) This game is "NOTHING!" like prey...in ANY! way. (other than having portals...duhh)
This game is a puzzle game, its not a all out shoot em up kinda game, there was no firing weapons you can get. Your a test lab rat (it says that in the video so I can say that ;P) and there observing you (ok im on the line...but not gonna cross it) while your figuring out these puzzles.
Iv played a lot of games and there is NO OTHER that compares to this game. The game lenghth is not going to be MEGA long (from a month ago) and theres no intention to make it that long from what they said.
RuFLy it took me and my buddy 5 hours to go throgh all the levels. So by the time its done it will be about a 7 hour long game. (avg...cause im just so damn good)
But heres the cool thing about this game. Its like a BRAIN DRAINING game. So if your not quick on your feet, its gonna be a LONG! game. HA HA (but not to the point where its frustrating, I think they were talking about help things that pop up if your stuck)
Now there is action in this game so dont take what I said no shooting make it like its nothing but puzzles. I can't tell you cause it would be a spoiler. But theres times in the game (as you seen in the video) where you have to be really good with that gun.
Trust me by the time you finish the game, those puzzles that took you 15 minutes to figure out in the beggining will be flying by at the end of the game.
The game was SO addicting to me my buddy chewed me out when we were leaving that I was hogging the game (lol)
You really can't do a review on this game and tell you so in detail what its about. Other than putting 1 portal on the wall, and another on the other side of the map and jumping in 1 to get to the other. But it doesn't stop there. But if I DID tell you how far it goes....it just ruins the game....and you would get mad at me....and they would to.
Please dont ask complex questions because I dont know what I can answer...so I just choose not to...im VERY VERY! gratful valve let me go to there house and play (lol). And I'll give them there respect.
P.S. im the first person to beat Portal (they told me... well im the first person to get play that far into the game... and beat the final stage...)

First im gonna go off of a Comparison of what I just played of ND.
1) ON ND you can make a portal THROUGH a portal. This isn't the case in Portal. Unless they added a new feature to the portal at the end. But they didn't like that feature because its WAY to easy.
2) the story with no Knee or what ever...NOTHING of the sort along the same story
3) The button, and getting something to put on a button(see that box in video)...same gameplay there, on some levels....accually ALOT, its not all that simple later on...but same concept
4) Swimming turtels...no,lol.
5) Bolders, well you know the combine AR gun, that PLASMA ball that fires out of it.... thats kinda like the bolder. Theres these machines that fire these plasma balls, and you have to open a portal on the wall and change there trajectory and make them land in a "socket" ( I laughed because you have to do the SAME thing in EP1...played Portal before ep1 FYI)(shows that in the video but 2 seconds worth)
6) Left mouse click blue portal, right mouse click Red portal. The gun doesn't have 2 ablities when you first get it, and they talked about adding more to it...but I didn't play that build.

Ok Gameplay, When they make these levels theres 1 primary way they make it when they design the level. But when I went through I heard them talking about "havn't seen somebody go that way yet...or do that yet"
So yes there are multiple diff ways to beat a puzzle. (I accually Slaped my self when I saw the video on how to do something...and I was doing it the hard way)
Character...I can't tell you...and if I did tell you on what I played....it probley changed. So I would be lying to you.
They told me they have a writing working on a story line and thats not even importing to my testing...so I couldn't tell ya. (other than you start off like a rat and they test your knowledge)
Enemies....this is another I couldn't tell you because I dont KNOW. The game I played...they only had sentry guns. But im pretty sure they were talking about adding more. But trust me, the sentry guns are set up in some pretty "difficult" positions.
Ah, one more thing I forgot to add. Like ND theres diff types of walls, you can't put a portal just ANYWHERE, well more places than not. But some walls you can't put a portal.
Another thing is (remember just on the verson I played) Gravity wont kill you...so if you jump off a 100 foot building you dont die....but if it could....you would be a idiot (harsh) for not just putting a portal on the ground below you. (GAMEPLAY HINT HINT!)
Another thing I read on the forums was somebody saying you plan out what you do before the level, like stratigis or something. The game is fluent....just like ND. You unlock a gate move on to next puzzle. No stoping in the game. No stoping and planning on what to do next.
Another is there was no 3rd person. 1st person only. Can't get in 3rd person and cheat and look around a corner and see what you have to do next.
It was kinda funny because the bugs in that 25 mb game...the INVERT MOUSE problem...that happened sometimes in the source version.

When I was there, they didn't have a multiplayer. Dont look forward to a multiplayer for the first release.
Dont quote me either, but it didn't seem by the way the told me they had any intentions on having a multiplayer ready any time soon.
They asked me how they could make the game better and I told them multiplayer would be freaking INSANE if they could figure it out... so lets just hope for the best.
But with this game its would be so easy to mess up multiplayer... but if you got the kinkz all worked out... would be awesome.
questo è quanto racconta uno che un mese fa ha fatto parte del playtesting di una versione alpha di portal
