XBLA Game Music Is Getting Better, Yo
http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2...iveimpress.jpg Omega Five! Great little shooter. The Xbox Live Arcade game features an unlockable "retro mode" where the game's graphics and the sound go 16-bit! You know what, that's pretty neato. The score was done by game music vet Hiroyuki Iwatsuki, who apparently has been inspired more by game music than anything else. (Word has it he hadn't even heard the Beatles until he started working in the game industry!) Iwatsuki says this about XBLA:
We think it would be truly interesting if more developers like Natsume made high quality XBLA games.
As far as video game music is concerned, when the service first started, we either had to limit the number of the tracks or use built-in synth to play each tune in order to accommodate the capacity restrictions. I think that most of these technical problems can be solved now because of recent improvements in the technology. I think that it would be truly interesting if games come about using the powerful sound capabilities of the Xbox 360 while incorporating a system that manipulates sound in real-time so that the music interacts on a deep level with the gameplay.

XBLA Update: Wits & Wagers & Wednesday
http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2...and_wagers.jpgXbox Live Arcade weekly updates are back on schedule, after Niko Bellic and his gang hijacked all Live traffic last week. This Wednesday, it's Wits & Wagers, a trivia party game for up to six players that features Xbox Live Vision camera support for maximum avatar creepiness. The official site states that Wits & Wagers "includes 700 unique and fun questions for up to 25 hours of exciting play." That's important to note. At 25 hours, you absolutely must stop expecting exciting play. You've been warned.

According to the behemoth dev blog, Castle Crashers is complete. But watch out, it might be a lie! If it's done, that means we should see it on XBLA in about three months, so keep your eyes peeled.

XBLA This Week: Aces Of The Galaxy And Roogoo
http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kota...ogoogalaxy.jpg Hooray! It's finally Roogoo time! Announced back in February from SouthPeak, this is the first Xbox Live Arcade game to feature rainbow-pooping teddy bears, and that's all you really need to know about it, aside from the fact that it's a puzzle game involving rotating platforms and falling meteors.
Bears pooping rainbows is joined by Sierra Online's Aces of the Galaxy, which is a classic arcade space shooter with 2 player co-op both online and off, as well as a temporal shift feature that allows you to slow down time in mid-dogfight.
Both games will be available this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft points a pop. If I had to choose one...well, I'd follow my heart, which apparently leads to a teddy bear's digestive system. Gross, but cute.

XBLA Wednesday: Elements of Destruction and Sea Life Safari
http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kota.../06/eodsls.jpg Two new games are set to be released for the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, and while both deal with nature, the approach each title takes to dealing with it are quite different indeed.
In THQ's Elements of Destruction (800 MS points) you play a shunned research scientist who harnesses the forces of nature to get back at the corporation that terminated you. Blow buildings apart with tornadoes, shake their foundations with earthquakes, or set them on fire, it's like Sim City without having to first build a city before destroying it.
If you prefer to simply take in nature rather than harness it for your own vengeful purposes, Sierra Online's Sea Life Safari (800 MS points) might be more your speed. As the name suggests, it's all about taking pictures of sea life across five unique environments. An odd pairing to be sure, but that's nature for you.
