hai ragione torno IT con le ultime dichiarazioni di Tretton sulla PS4:

Today, IGN spoke at length with Sony Computer Entertainment America's CEO and President Jack Tretton about all things PlayStation. The PlayStation Vita took center stage in the discussion, but inevitably, the next generation of PlayStation consoles came up.

When asked if the rumors of there being no PlayStation 4 reveal in 2012 were true, Tretton talked about how Sony constantly iterates and is always working on what's next for the PlayStation brand.

"In terms of when you talk about [the next generation] and when you announce it, it really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on," Tretton remarked. "And right now, we're focused on PlayStation 3, and I've got another platform (PlayStation Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don't want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon. I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us."

Tretton concluded, "I, quite frankly, would be very distracted if I had to be talking about next generation hardware this year," insinuating that PlayStation 4, in line with rumors supporting it, wouldn't be seen or heard from in 2012.

Questo non mandrebbe a puttane la retrocompatibilità?

Non credo che l'RSX di Nvidia si discosti tanto dalle sue comuni GPU per personal computer, quindi una GPU di AMD molto probabilmente funzionerà lo stesso bene.

un gioco su pc funzionerà più o meno bene con qualsiasi scheda video
su una console però la scheda video rimane sempre quella , quindi suppongo i programmatori abbiano a disposizione qualche funzionalità scritta apposta per la gpu in questione.
un gioco scritto per la gpu della ps3 non è detto che funzioni facilmente sulla gpu della ps4... un po' come la retrocompatibilità dei giochi dall'xbox alla x360 : scarsa...

Molto più probabilmente la maggiore potenza grafica delle console permetterà una emulazione più che una retrocompatibilità.
Il problema maggiore è capire quanto interesse ci sarà da parte delle software house a rendere retrocompatibili i loro precedenti titoli per 360 o ps3.

Alla fine se ne sono fottuti della retrocompatibilità di una console che ha stravinto come la PS2...figuriamoci ora...per non parlare della x360 dove pochissimi giochi sono retrocompatibili (per fortuna ninja gaiden altrimenti non lo avrei mai giocato), basti pensare che Halo 2 il titolone di punta della prima xbox ha parecchi artefatti e problemini vari sulla x360...

su una console però la scheda video rimane sempre quella ,quindi suppongo i programmatori abbiano a disposizione qualche funzionalità scritta apposta per la gpu in questione.

Non credo sia niente di fondamentale: l'RSX per almeno il 90% della sua architettura immagino sia identico alle altre GPU Nvidia uscite nello stesso periodo (altrimenti sarebbe costato molto di più ad Nvidia da progettare) e le funzionalità differenti non sarà un problema simularle sul nuovo hardware AMD. Insomma, di certo non si tratterà della differenza tra Graphic Synthetizer ed RSX stesso.

beh magari tra qualche anno usciranno i remake in superhd delle sAghe attuali: gears superhd, assassin creed superhd, uncharted superhd, god of war superhd, batman superhd etc etc con tutti i dlc e le minchiatine in un colpo solo...
