Nintendo has announced that Pokemon X and Y will hit 3DS on October 12, 2013 worldwide.

The games will include a new Fairy Pokemon type, the 18th type of Pokemon to be introduced to the franchise. The Fairy type is super effective against Dragons and includes new Eevee evolution Sylveon as well as retroactively including Jigglypuff, Gardevoir, and Marill (though there's no word if these Pokemon will also retain their existing type). A new Pokemon named Noivern was also revealed.

Nintendo additionally showed off “Pokemon-Amie,” a virtual pet-style feature within X and Y that allows players to form a “deeper connection” with their Pokemon. Players will be able to feed and care for Pokemon and can also pet them using the stylus. The feature was demoed using Pokemon including Pikachu and Snorlax.
Nintendo's 3D Mario for Wii U now has a name: Super Mario 3D World. During its pre-E3 2013 Nintendo Direct, the publisher highlighted EAD Tokyo's next project, which draws heavy inspiration and design elements from its last game - Super Mario 3D Land for Nintendo 3DS. 3D World is due out in December 2013.

3D World will also support four players simultaneously, as Toad, Luigi, and Princess Peach will join Mario on his adventure. What's key here is that all four characters have unique traits, just as they did back in Super Mario Bros. 2. Peach can once again briefly float in mid-air, Toad is slightly faster with a slightly different weight, and Luigi once again has a longer, higher jump.

As part of the game's debut trailer, Nintendo also revealed a new costume for Mario and his allies: the Cat Suit. By obtaining a gold bell, Mario will transform into a cat and gain the ability to pounce on enemies or scale walls and poles. New footage also revealed the presence of what appear to be Kuribo's Skate (not Shoes!) and an orange Yoshi that takes the form of a raft.

Also, though this only matters to me, Nintendo is bringing back Chargin' Chuck. Football-loving Koopas are awesome!
Nintendo has officially announced Mario Kart 8 for Wii U. Set to arrive in Spring 2014, the Mario Kart 8 will introduce a new hover kart mechanic that's automatically activated at certain points in new stages (much like the glider and propeller mechanics in Mario Kart 7).

Mario Kart 8 will also bring back the bikes originally seen in Mario Kart Wii, in addition to standard karts.

Characters confirmed thus far in Mario Kart 8 include Mario, Toadette, Daisy, Koopa Troopa, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Waluigi, and Peach. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said Mario Kart 8 will include the “best collection of modes yet” for online play, and that players will be able to interact with one another worldwide via Miiverse.
During its pre-E3 Nintendo Direct today, Nintendo confirmed that Wii Party U has been delayed to October and Wii Fit U has been delayed to Winter.

Wii Party U was announced in January and was originally due this Summer. It includes Mii-based games, board games, and party games as part of 80 mini games, which use combinations of the GamePad or Wii remotes. Multiple players can interact with new tabletop games, which also use the GamePad.

Wii Fit U, meanwhile, was originally due in Wii U’s launch window and later announced for the first half of 2013. It’s unclear if “winter” will mean late 2013 or early 2014, but we do know it’s been delayed in order to add more features and to focus on the recently revealed Fit Meter.
During its pre-E3 Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo confirmed 14 of the third-party titles headed to Wii U and 3DS in the near future.

From publishers including WB, Ubisoft, Disney, Activision, and Square Enix, the full list is below:

    Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
    Batman: Arkham Origins
    Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate
Deux Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut
    Disney Infinity
    Just Dance 2014
    Rayman Legends
    Scribblenauts: Unmasked
    Disney's Planes
    Shin Megami Tensei IV
    Skylanders Swap Force
    Splinter Cell: Blacklist
    Sonic: Lost World
    Watch Dogs
During its pre-E3 2013 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo spent a few minutes highlighting various digital games coming soon to the Wii U eShop. Some of these are being worked on by indie developers, while others are being published or developed by major publishers like Capcom and Ubisoft.

    Here's the full list:

    Ballpoint Universe (Arachnid Games)
    Cloudberry Kingdom (Ubisoft/Pwnee)
    Coaster Crazy Deluxe (Frontier Developments)
    DuckTales Remastered (Capcom/WayForward)
Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Capcom)
Oddworld: New & Tasty (Oddworld Inhabitants)
Scram Kitty & His Buddy on Rails (Dakko Dakko)
    Shovel Knight (Yacht Club)
Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party (Knap Nok Games)
    World of Keflings (Ninja Bee)
    Mutant Mudds Deluxe (Renegade Kid)

Looks like there's plenty on the way - keep an eye out for more details on Nintendo's eShop plans.
Nintendo has announced that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will hit Wii U in October in the West and September in Japan.

Wind Waker HD will feature 1080p graphics and use shaders to better refine textures and improve character expression. On Wii U, Nintendo is adding multiple new features including a “speed up” button to allow your boat to travel faster. Other changes have yet to be revealed.

Nintendo is also bringing back the Tingle Tuner (which involved connecting the Game Boy Advance to the GameCube in the original Wind Waker) to the Wii U. Players will also be able to post messages to Miiverse, which exist within the game world as notes in a bottle. Notes will then wash ashore in other players' games
Though not due for release until 2014, Nintendo spent several minutes focusing on PlatinumGames' Bayonetta 2 during its pre-E3 2013 Nintendo Direct. A new trailer revealed first gameplay footage as well as a new look for Bayonetta herself, who now sports a shorter haircut as well as some new weaponry.

Tonally, Bayonetta 2 is exactly what fans of Platinum and the previous game would hope for, and Nintendo seems intent on not dulling the developer's trademark style. The trailer was certainly packed with over-the-top battle sequences against massive enemies, and gratuitous shots of Bayonetta's body in slow motion. Whatever else is on the way to Wii U, Bayonetta 2 will certainly stand apart.

Two mysterious characters were repeatedly featured in the Nintendo Direct trailer, one with a gold mask and spiked staff, the other much younger, wearing a hoodie and a triangular gold chain. Nintendo provided no further details on either individual.
To be perfectly honest, with Donkey Kong Country Returns merely two years old, and its re-release freshly released for the 3DS, the last thing I expected Retro to be working on was a Wii U sequel. It seemed as though it’d be time to return to Metroid, or be daring and branch out to something like Zelda.

Initial surprise aside, what Retro is doing with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is exactly what I want in a HD Donkey Kong platformer. In fact, what the team is doing with dynamic camera movement is particularly stunning, adding an extra level of brilliance on what will likely be another great chapter in Donkey, Diddy and Dixie’s next adventure.

Retro isn’t shaking up its core formula too much here. Donkey Kong has the exact weight and movement that I’d expect him to have, with a heavier sense of momentum and greater pull than, say, Mario. The ape’s ground pound ability is back as well, though Retro has eliminated the blowing move in favor of a handle-grabbing pull, allowing Kong to pull up platforms and levers. Diddy (and presumably Dixie) is found in a barrel, and will not only add hearts to DK’s life, but give his jumps extra horizontal movement. Mixed into the typical platform mechanics are the usual array of collectibles, tucked into every corner and under every floor board. As usual, the most dedicated fans will no doubt be forced to spend dozens upon dozens of hours uncovering every secret.

Bayonetta 2 will feature a two-player mode, Platinum Games designer Hideki Kamiya said at a Nintendo E3 press event today.

Kamiya told an audience at E3: "Bayonetta was designed as a single-player experience, but it also has two-player and we'll have more to say about that later."

Speaking with Kotaku at E3, Guillemot said the firm’s focus regarding the consoles has changed, after releasing ZombiU exclusively on the system at launch.

“We need more sold,” Guillemot said. “hey are coming with five of their biggest brands ever. And the Yen went down. So maybe they will take steps that will increase the number of consoles sold.

“Our job is to be agile. We have to adapt the company to the potential of the market. So, what we did last year, was we knew we could learn second-screen with Nintendo, so we went full-speed to use this capacity the console was bringing. And we were able to develop Rayman, which will come at the end of this year and which is fantastic, using this second screen.

“What we saw is that, in learning that, we can also use it with the other consoles with [Xbox 360] Smart Glass, for example, and it’s a good option that is coming to us. If you look at us this year on Wii U we will have a lot of products.”

So while the firm is still supporting the system with multiplatform titles, the shift in its confidence in the system can be seen with the once exclusive Rayman Legends going multiplatform.

Once Nintendo moves more consoles, which it surely will when Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. Wii U comes out, Ubisoft will respond in kind.
