Cristo, l'ultimo capitolo di nana to kaoru!![]()

At the battle's climax, the captain's faith in God is shaken by the failure
of their weapon to detonate (although his assistant, an atheist, wisely
does not make a fine point of it in the face of almost certain defeat).
Indeed, for its detonation to occur, it is subtly implied that
the "miracle" of victory it symbolizes
must be realized by humanity (as Noriko and Kazumi), not God.

Wow. Where to begin. Of most import, this anime borrows HEAVILY from the Christian vocabulary. The enemies that threaten to destroy the earth are referred to as 'angels.' There is quite a bit of Christian imagery in the visuals, but there really isn't anything directly "blasphemous" about the series. Many explosions are shown in the shape of a cross, and multiple times during the series an entity is shown nailed to a cross-like structure with a weapon stabbed through it. Many references are made showing obvious nihilistic post-modern thought process, and the duplicity of self as defined 1) in one's own mind and 2) through other's perception is of MAJOR import. There is also a hint of "if I believe it, it will become reality" that might disturb some people.
Awesome
Religious Material Details
As expected for a supernatural action anime, this show contains the expected images of demons, demonic symbols, rooms set up for demonic rituals, and so on, but it goes farther than that by specifically trying to show its demon hunters as being Christian. Crosses together with arcane symbols and runes, holy water, and even encapsulated demons are used by a supposedly monastic order as weapons against demonic forces. Demons are portrayed in a somewhat sympathetic light in the latter half of the series and have the capacity to do good and help humankind. There are also “apostles” endowed with the ability to tap into “the power of God” which can be used for good or evil, and their power is often used for great evil in this anime. These “apostles” are explained by references to the Catholic prophecies at Fatima which have little relation to the actual prophecies. Also, the universe discussed in this anime is definitely dualistic, with Heaven and Hell portrayed as having equal and opposing power, and humans are portrayed as going through a Buddhist-like cycle of reincarnation. Finally, several of the demons rail blasphemously against God throughout the series, claiming He is ignoring the world and ignoring the sufferings of humankind and challenging Him to stop their evil acts.
Sapevatelo.
Religious Material Details
Well, this area has sparked a lot of people. In the first episode, Ed talks about that things like prayer is foolish and that a scientist like him doesn't need to believe in a god. Also, the characters are able to transmute objects, basically turning one thing into another. Later in the series you can infer that Edward changed his mind about religion but he doesn't say it out. Also, you will see some alchemists transmuting live people with animals, called Chimeras. They are basically two animals, human or not, put together. One example is a character called Martel; she is a Human and a Snake transmuted as one (although she looks humanoid, she has attributes of a snake).
The entire plot can be considered spiritual, however, since Edward and Alphonse have paid for their sins and travel the world seeking redemption for them. In their path they meet the seven sins (Lust, Wrath, Greed, and others) and must conquer them, a huge Christian theme that is commonly played out through the entire series.

Like many Final Fantasy games, the primary theme of the game involves Gaia Theory. Also, there is a fairly substantial plot line which involves demons. As with many RPG games, some or all of the characters may be outfitted as magic users.
