The Earth was ravaged twice by the Buggers, an alien race seemingly determined to destroy humanity. Seventy years later, the people of Earth remain banded together to prevent their own annihilation from this technologically superior alien species. Il racconto dal titolo omonimo ha visto il premio Hugo (l'Oscar della fantascienza, per così dire). Poi è stato ampliato in una trilogia di romanzi, se ricordo bene.
La storia originale è un ragazzino (ma proprio bimbo, intendo: 5/6 anni) che viene fatto "giocare" alla guerra dalle forze armate umane, molti anni dopo una terrificante guerra contro degli alieni. Ender, il bimbo, è un tattico/stratega nato, e viene prestissimo "promosso" per comandare altri bimbi e insegnar loro tattiche sempre più efficaci per vincere il "gioco".
