Today at Microsoft's Xbox One press conference, a new exclusive game called Project Spark was revealed. It's a fantasy-themed action game with a twist: everything in the world, from the environments to the characters and enemies, can be created by the player, and creation can be assisted with tools such as Kinect and SmartGlass.
Project Spark will come to both Xbox One and Windows 8.
In the demo, an entirely new environment for the game to place in was created using voice commands on Kinect and touch controls on SmartGlass. Topography and geography were manipulated on the fly, and the creation possibilities are virtually endless. As the game's developer noted on-stage, there's "an infinite number of ways to play, build and share" in Project Spark
Interestingly, as soon as one player ceased creating the world and the enemies in that world, another player could seamlessly jump into that world to begin playing. In fact, player interaction in this way could conceivably be constant. As one player plays in the world, the other player can dynamically change the world, create AI companions and new enemies on the fly, and cause constant hazards. It all happens in realtime.
It's unclear when Project Spark will be available, but we'll update when we learn more.
