Ukrainian born Vitalij Kuprij is consistently at the top of keyboard player polls worldwide having been involved in some of the finest progressive/neo-classical albums of recent years from acts such as Artension and Ring Of Fire. In addition to these band works, Vitalij has had a very prolific solo output and his new solo album ‘Glacial Inferno’ marks his fifth solo adventure to date and second solo release on Lion Music following 2004’s ‘Forward & Beyond’. The new solo album sees an extremely powerful line up of Vitalij with Michael Harris on guitar, and the former Yngwie Malmsteen/Ark rhythm section of John Macaluso on drums and Randy Coven on bass.
‘Glacial Inferno’ is being released as a limited edition double pack of just 2000 units with Vitalij’s latest band project release ‘Revenge’, which until now has been unavailable outside Asia. As with ‘Glacial Inferno’, ‘Revenge’ sees Vitalij team up with American guitarist Michael Harris who recently released the critically acclaimed ‘Orchestrate’ on Lion Music in 2006 to create a truly exciting musical pairing.
:scetticismo:
Drum legend John Macaluso has just revealed details of his upcoming album, “John Macaluso & Union Radio - The Radio Waves Goodbye” due early 2007 on Lion Music.
This album to me has an influence of Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath, with drumming twice the speed. I have spent a year and a half working on it gathering all my best friends in the music world together. I wrote music and lyrics for my band ARK but this is the first time where I am writing words, music, and vocal melodies. It is my baby and has come out better than ever expected because all the friends on the record have kicked and performed incredibly on it. I have 12 songs and a drum solo on it. There is a drumming influence of my drumming idol Terry Bozzio of course, mixed with moody Nick Mason styles and a heavy techno drum and bass vibe. This type of drumming with Floyd type vibes makes for something I personally have never heard before. As far as the players, I thought it would be interesting to have everybody play something they are really not a custom to. For example to put a lead electric guitarist on 12 string only, there is even distorted banjo and Bazuki on some tracks. This adds great colour and even a strange folk influence to the music. The vibe is very dark and the content of the songs too. I felt I should go more with keyboards than heavy guitar. I have done records my whole life with heavy guitar sounds, and this of course still has some heavy guitar but I think using strange chords is actually heavier and deeper than just having a crunchy sound. Drumming wise, I play a lot of double bass but in the ARK style, meaning more split rhythmic I call "Morse Code". There is a lot of heavy grooves on the record but put into odd time figures. The twist here was to use odd times in a way where they are just felt as beats and not so choppy and mathmatical. We did a lot of playing where the guitar or keyboards are playing in 4/4 over the odd rhythms. I am mixing now will have it out ASAP and will be doing clinics and gigs to support it. Thats it check it out very soon. There are some great players on this record pattern playing some magic. On the record is:
James LaBrie (Dream Theater)on Vocals, The great Vitalij Kuprij on Keyboards, Mike DiMeo on Vocals from Riot, Alex Masi on Guitar, Marco Sfogli (James LaBrie Band) on Guitar, Fabrizio Grossi on Bass, Ze Gray, Randy Coven on Bass, on Bass, Adrian Holtz on vocals who is actually the singer we were using after Jorn Lande for the third ARK album, Don Chaffin on Vocals, Larry Meyer on Guitar, Alex Rastopskin on Guitar, Robert Katrikh on Guitar, Derrik Weiland (TSO) on Guitar, Chris Caffrey (TSO) on Guitar, and the glue of the whole album the man who adds the common thread to all the tracks, Dimuti on all instruments, oh and me John Mac on drums.
sembrerebbe ganzo..di Kuprij me ne sbatto
sì, kuprij è ormai inaffidabile
qualche speranza in più, invece, per macaluso... ma se avesse composto l'album della vita, l' avrebbe proposto alla inside out e non a quei poveracci della lion. cmq chissa'...
Fear of a Blank Planet
Roadrunner Records and Atlantic USA have officially announced the release of the new Porcupine Tree album "Fear of a Blank Planet" in mid April. The album features six (mostly lengthy) tracks, and is the band’s most ambitious and cohesive work to date. Much of it was debuted last year on tour to a rapturous response from fans.
The lyrical content of the song-cycle on the album is a 21st century cocktail of MTV, sex, prescription drugs, video games, the internet, terminal boredom, and subsequent escape.
More news and previews of the album to follow on this site.
