Hey I got my latest issue of Games for Windows (formerly Computer Gaming Monthly), where they sat down with Oleg and discussed his philosophies and such about the series. He seems really to be focused on delivering a great game from what I read.
Apparently in April 2005, he had 2 car accidents back to back which forced him to not be able to fly for two years! Frown I had no clue whatsoever of this!
Ok, and he talks a little bit about Storm Of War, saying that they are also have done more in-depth material modeling including their physical properties, and this can also affect instruments, levers etc. inside of the cockpit!! Big Grin
We already knew about the fact that London and other cities will have AI controlled vehicles that follow logical routes and such, and how radar will be a very important part of the game play. Also dynamic weathering has been greatly improved from their previous in house version.
Furthermore the talked about how they're using a different approach to rendering the ground:" tiling a large number of special textures for hi res close up quality and reserving satellite data for elevation maps!
They will also be releasing end-user design tools, so people can make their own maps, planes vehicles ground objects, but limiting of course to single player while not touching the multiplayer plane sets: "Letting fans access the core of a combat sim invites rampant multiplayer cheating, this is why Microsoft's combat sim franchise died. Our multiplayer is cheater free".
AND FOR THE ICING ON THE CAKE: (I am directly quoting him for this one:

Release date written June 2007, but CFW has been always pushed back the date to the following month since early 2006...
