non ci credooooooooooThanks to id's new Tech 5 engine, Rage is one of the most absolutely stunning games on the horizon. But, according to tech god John Carmack, Doom 4 will look "three times" better. Wow-wee.
Speaking on stage at QuakeCon in Texas, Carmack said, "the next DOOM game will look like it's built on another engine, as it uses three times the horsepower," sending graphics whores into an uncontrollable spasm.
Apparently id's able to pull of such a massive leap in visual quality between the two because Doom will only run at 30fps, while Rage is locked at 60. Doom 4 will still feature "blood, demons, and gibs," too, said Carmack.
There's also hope for the series' usually lacklustre multiplayer mode, which will be afforded much more attention than it's usually received in the past. Doom 4 multiplayer will have a "much larger presence", said Carmack.
"[Doom 4 multiplayer] will not be as good of a multiplayer as Quake Live is, but it should still be good, and we will intend it to be better than Doom 3 or Quake 4 multiplayer," he added, being surprisingly frank for a games boss.
And while we're on the subject of Quake Live, which used to be called 'Quake Arena', Carmack revealed that the free-to-play shooter has to be renamed after an internet squatter hogged quakearena.com. Cheeky.
magari a lipsia...
http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6318725...-next-gen-rageGS: That's great. And in terms of Doom 4, what's the status of that?
JC: I know we're not supposed to talk about it, but I'll tell you a couple of things. (Looks at media minder across the table.) So, as soon as Rage ships, the core tech team moves over to start making things happen on the Doom 4 project. There's me and the systems programmer types that have been on Rage for so long. We're going to move over to the Doom team and a lot of resources are going to migrate over there. And that's a necessary and key aspect of being a larger company; it gives us this ability to migrate people between the projects because it was something that we were really feeling the pinch before this. If you've got 50 people working on a project, it's not useful to have all of them on day one on there; you really want to have a smaller team building things. Then at the end now, we would have a hundred people on the team.
That's the model that we're moving toward…being able to migrate parts of the company between projects on there kind of makes for a better schedule. And the only thing I've really talked about on Doom 4, technology-wise, is that we did make the decision that…well, my biggest pride and joy about Rage is that I won the fight for 60 frames per second on there, but it involves significant trade-offs. You can't have 30 guys crawling all over you at 60 frames per second at this graphics technology level because it's painful. It's a lot of effort to do that. But, we did make the call that for Doom 4, the single-player is going to go 30 frames per second on the consoles. So we can have 30 demons crawling all over you on there. But the multiplayer is still going to be 60 frames per second, so it has the quality feel that Rage has.

A source claiming to be close to the publishers of the recently-launched RAGE has told Kotaku that, at a recent "company wide" meeting held in Dallas, Bethesda and parent company Zenimax made the decision to "indefinitely postpone" development of Doom 4.
Despite having been first announced back in 2008, Doom 4 has been on the backburner at developers id while work was completed on multiplatform shooter RAGE, which was released earlier this month to decidedly mixed reviews. While Crecente enjoyed it (and I'm digging it as well), the game's repetitive nature and numerous technical issues left it falling well short of many people's expectations.
The apparent source says that Zenimax and Bethesda made the decision based on the "the issues and reviews" surrounding RAGE's launch, which in their eyes has demonstrated "a serious lack of confidence in the project management at id".
Remember that, before you get too invested in this, at the moment the news is entirely unconfirmed. We've contacted Bethesda for comment and clarification, and will update if we hear back.
Ci guadagnerebbero tutti
in b4 esce prima Rage 2
