The internet often turns to fansubbers for innovation in the world of encoding, and we here at gSS feel it's time to take another step forward. Let's face it, lossy codecs are a pain, and with the widespread adoption of services like FIOS and DOCSIS 3.0, there's no longer any need for overcompression of high definition video into unorthodox sizes like 233MB. Leechers are hungry for high quality, no compromise fansubs.

We're proud to introduce today our new
format going forward: lossless x264. The internet has by and large gracefully made the transition to x264 over the past two years and leechers are no longer afraid of such a scary new codec. Lossless x264 will provide an excellent solution to the needs of higher quality, without leechers having to install any new codecs or configurations. They (and we!) will be satisfied that this will be the best quality avaliable short of having the master tapes.

(NB:
While end users may already have ffdshow/CoreAVC for decoding, CPU requirements may or may not increase depending on hardware configuration. We recommend the Intel Core i7 965, starting at just $999 [new motherboard and RAM costs not included]. We also recommend viewers use madVR, currently the highest quality renderer avaliable on the market. GPU requirements may or may not also rise using this renderer, we recommend a Quad SLI GTX 295 configuration, again starting at the low price of $999).


But that's not all! Audio has also been given the royal treatment by our dedicated team. Audio for this episode is unfortunatly only avaliable with 2 channel AC3 at 640Kbit/s, but starting from the next episode we shall be fully remastering to FLAC 5.1. FLAC is currently the standard in lossless audio, with higher compression ratios than even Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio used on Blu-Ray!

Finally, while we have had a great experience
with ASS subtitles over the years, going forward we will be using SRT subtitles. SRT is much more vesatile, and frankly we will save countless seconds not having to choose seperate fonts for dialogue, signs, and opening/ending song translations (which we will also no longer providing, the lyrics will now be even easier to hear [and not read] with our superb remastered audio!).

I pity you fansubbers. Lots of stupid people around here.

8.2GB is a damn good size for a lossless file (HD MPEG2 encodes are about 151GB per 30 minutes). Damn shame you couldn't get the FLAC into this one.
