A fragment from a manuscript containing a lyrical poem of the Labors of Hercules written in cursive Greek. Includes three small, colored-in roll-form illustrations of Hercules fighting the Nemean Lion. The scenes depict Hercules wielding his club, battling the lion, and holding the lion’s skin after the battle.
Ink on papyrus.
Made in the 3rd century in Egypt. Excavated at Oxyrhynchus by the Egypt Exploration Society. Currently held at the Sackler Library in Oxford.
